2- little 12 years old brother got pissed off at him for [insert any reason] and got a hold of his computer with afk GW

3- anything else of this kind.

me personally i would not be worried to give my account info to my BF so he can help me swap items or complete a trade, i mean.. we shared more then game account password at this point... and i know that if we would fight he wouldn't even think of doing anything like this.

it could be a hack too, if it wasnt they will see it happened from the same log in IP (or 1 of the 2 regular log in IPs)

I hope people who have account problems in the future get as much attention from ANet as Awowoa did.

Because preferential treatment is baed, I hurd. O.O

I think Awowoa is getting so much attention from ANet because the community is making such a big deal about it. Had we gone and thrown fits over every single account that got hacked maybe this would have not seemed like such a big deal. But because Awowoa was the leader of a top ranked guild that was well known through out the community, the community has made a big deal about it. Therefore ANet has responded to the community's concerns and speculations.

i am sorry but i think that they should not have gotten anything back. people get hacked all the time and Anet always says there is nothing they cant do to fix it. why should that guild get special treatment?

I must have missed this the first time in Reginas post but if you are talking about them getting their guild cape back then I do believe she said that the guild cape is tied to the guild name. So had someone else gone and taken the name Rebels Rising [rawr] they would of had a cape with a gold trim. Other then that I don't remember them getting anything back.

So many people asking for them to replace items.

I would much rather they have a STRICT you will NEVER get items back policy. This makes it consistant for everyone. There is no possibility for favoritism. (Which was a major concern with this incident with many people).

I remember many years ago when I was a GM in Everquest. They had a policy of replacing items if it was determined to not be the players fault.

Now, remember that if you died and did not return to loot your own corpse, it would vanish after a time and you would lose everything.

It became impossible to actually do any GM work due to the massive amount of petitions stating that they deserved their items back because they got "hacked". It was determined that there were a grand total of two actual hackings. However we received hundreds of petitions.

Among those hundreds of petitions were people who were asking why "Joe" got his items restored and "Jim" didn't when it was the "Same" situation!!!!!

Restoring items is not worth the hassle. It's inconsistant. It actually increases the work load of the people who deal with those reports.

By saying "Sorry, policy is not to return any items/gold/whatever" then everyone gets treated the same.

As much as it sucks that someone got "hacked" and lost everything, at least it let us all know for certainty that no matter your "Status" it doesn't change anything regarding the policy.

With all the free rootkits floating around on the net nowadays anything is possible. Nice of Anet to restore the gold cape trim.

Yes, I do understand that this is the case. It's just disappointing, imo.

So, if some random person made a guild named Rebel Rising[rawr] after it was deleted, they would have inherited the gold trim they did no work for? That would have sucked.

I agree as well, it isn't fair to other players who have been hacked and lost countless items and who knows how much money. But just like many other things in this game, what happens is normally dictated by the community. Which is very sad in some cases.

Ya that would have been pretty bad for rawr but I think by the time everyone realized it rawr had already reformed. So luckily for them they didn't get their guild name taken.

Disappointing Anet responded officially? How? With all the community attention I'd be disappointed they didnt say anything at all.

Actually, I am more concerned that there is no backup, nothing, whatsoever. Who said anything about items... I'd be more concerned with character accomplishments. Sucks for Aowowoa, but it already is fair for everyone. No favoritism as it stands currently. I too prefer it stays that way, of course, but just wish to place asterisk there saying some sort of backup should someday be contemplated.

I totally agree with your opinion. Why should a guild ,who is no more important than any other Guild, be granted special treatment.
Although i do feel bad for all involved,my thoughts go out to u,how many other peeps have been "Hacked" and not recieved this kind of attention?

Mebe something good will come out of this and the generic "GM" reply will become history
Mebe A-Net will provide the innocent ones some security in knowing they have a support team on thier side and not asleep at the wheel as most of us "normal" players feel.
I'm glad of the "semi swift" responce A-Net provided.............now how about for the rest of us.
Ask yourselfs this "if this would have happend to my 20 man PvE guild" would we get the same attention from A-net?
I wonder how many peeps this has happend to that we dont know of?
I do respect what the guild has done and mean no disrespect at all twords you or your guild. All i am trying to say is would my guild have gotten the same attention ....not at all

I don't think he's disappointed about Anet's response but rather the communities reaction to this.

Personally I'm disappointed too. I look back at all the other people in the past and how they lost their accounts and feel sorry for them. This community gave them no sympathy at all. Suddenly [rawr] gets deleted and everyone is all sympathetic and everything. Where was all of this the last 3 years?

Personally i feel insecure and afraid that someone will hack me just for fun and take everything ive worked for years to get... Come on ANET its your responsibility to make sure that nothing liek this happens! At least reimburse them give them their money back and items. This isn't you normal incident it was a WHOLE alliance that was attacked! So even if its one players fault the whole group should not have to pay the consequences...

I'm truly sorry that some feel the gold cape being restored is preferential treatment as that isn't what we're about. Our goal is only to support the community of a game we all love and enjoy. Also thanks for all the support from the various threads.

Pfft, What a load of crap. Average Joe players who get "hacked" into and lose things get ignored and accused of using mods and flamed. But these PvPers who suffer the same as the average joe players get special treatment.

What a load of crap. Everyone cries "Poor so and so, Poor Rawr". Whatever, what about Poor Average joe player!

What a load of crap. I'm glad Rawr people got targeted, Now maybe anet will get off their asses and help protect EVERYONE from this crap.

I don't mean to sound mean or anything but this screams favoritism, I wish no one ill, but Rawr should be treated just like everyone else. No different.

I guess we now know who anet cares about.

And not being able to restore stuff is bs, You could very easily take control of someones account and rebuild their characters, place items, skills and money back on their characters. You could build test zones where things drop every time you kill something. I kill 1 monster and it drops all these items. I find it hard to swallow that anet does not have the ability to create or spawn anything in the game they want. Sounds like a BS buisness line to get people off their backs. I know other games that can replace everything, but I guess anet just isnt that good at their jobs.

What a load of crap.

PS: I have not been hacked but I am still pissed off because my fellow gamers are being targeted and then told that their screwed, deal with it and move on, while these rawr people get special treatment.

And so, as it turns out, things are happening just as they should.

Back to PvE for me, where the only drama I have to deal with is how slow escort NPCs are.

I'll chime in, I have no idea why some people are up-in-arms about them getting a cape trim. For all the "what if" scenario's this is unprecedented. There can be no claim of "preferential" treatment because this has not happened to a guild with a cape trim before.

There's a part of me that says that ArenaNet did what they could to give back what they could. We all know we can't get items, titles, ranking, experience or anything like that back. But we do know that they can give cape trims out, that it's done manually. Gold, titles, experience (etc. etc.) are not done manually.
